A Corvette driver’s late-night drive came to an abrupt stop after police say he was supposedly caught traveling nearly twice the posted speed limit on a Canadian highway.
According to the Abbotsford Police Department, officers stopped the sports car Tuesday night after allegedly recording it at an excessive speed. The traffic stop quickly led to more than just a citation.
Authorities say the 26-year-old now faces significant penalties under British Columbia’s excessive speeding laws.
Here’s what police say happened.
Corvette Stopped Traveling Nearly Twice the Speed Limit
According to the Abbotsford Police Department, the Corvette was traveling 160 km/h (about 99 mph) in a posted 80 km/h (50 mph) zone along Highway 11 near Valley Road.
Police say the driver was exceeding the speed limit by 80 km/h when officers conducted the traffic stop.
The 26-year-old received a ticket for excessive speeding, and the Corvette was impounded.
Why Police Took the Corvette
Excessive speeding in British Columbia carries more than a financial penalty.
Police say drivers caught well above the speed limit face mandatory seven-day vehicle impoundments in addition to hefty fines.
Officials say the penalties are intended to discourage dangerous driving and improve safety on public roads.
More Than 200 Drivers Have Already Been Stopped
The Abbotsford Police Department says road safety continues to be one of its enforcement priorities.
According to the department, officers have removed 223 excessive speeders from local roadways so far in 2026.
Police say excessive speed reduces reaction time and increases the risk of serious crashes, which is why enforcement remains a focus throughout the year.
Drivers Reacted Online
The department’s social media post generated plenty of reactions.
One commenter joked, “We need a race track in Abbotsford, clearly have a lot of customers.”
While some found humor in the situation, police say their message is simple: slowing down can prevent costly consequences for both drivers and everyone else on the road.
