A Wisconsin teenager is facing some pretty serious charges after a rollover crash involving an SUV on June 13 proved to be fatal. It left one teen dead and a few others injured in Fond du Lac County, Florida.

The crash happened on W1951 Highway HH in the Town of Calumet. At around 7:17 pm, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received several 911 calls about a serious rollover involving several people.

Apparently, after striking a culvert and driveway, the 16-year-old driver of the SUV launched into the air before smashing into a utility pole. It was after this impact that the SUV  rolled over.

As investigators worked to piece together what happened, authorities said impairment appears to have played a role in the crash.

A Massive Emergency Response Followed the Crash

As deputies and emergency crews rushed to the scene, dispatchers learned that as many as five or six people may have been inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Because there were so many people reported to be inside the SUV at the time of the accident, more ambulance resources were called in.

Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office responded alongside firefighters from the Calumet Fire Department, as well as personnel from the Calumet County Sheriff’s Office and several regional emergency medical agencies.

Members of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the ongoing investigation, which remains active. Authorities have not released additional details regarding what substance investigators believe may have contributed to the crash or whether toxicology results are pending.

A Night Out Ends in Tragedy for Several Teens

The driver was later identified as a 16-year-old girl from Sheboygan and was transported by ambulance to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac for treatment. A 15-year-old passenger was also taken to the same hospital, though another 16-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another 15-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to the Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee for treatment. Family members took a separate 15-year-old passenger to St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan for medical evaluation.

A 14-year-old passenger involved in the crash was reportedly not injured and was released to a parent at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identities of anyone involved, both because of their ages and because officials are still working to notify family members.

Reactions to SUV That Rolled Over With Teens Inside

Various commenters shared their opinions and condolences in the comments section of the official Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office post. One person wrote, “Such an unnecessary tragedy. Even if alcohol were not involved, there is still the graduated driver’s license issue. A driver who is only 16 can only have 1 passenger who is not a family member and 1 other licensed driver with 2 years of experience. If all of these injured people were her family, it’s even more tragic. So sad.”

Another commenter shared that she shares posts like these with her children to warn them about the dangers of being on the road, writing, “I always show both my teenage boys tragic posts like these so they can see the world with a little more clarity. It can be heavy, but I believe it can give them a sense of how fragile life is and hopefully encourage them to think twice about anything dangerous they might do. My heart is broken for the young life lost, and the families left behind 😔 I pray for everyone involved🙏🏽”

Authorities have not announced when formal charges may be filed. As with all criminal investigations, the teenage driver is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
