A woman in Dallas, Texas, was driving on an Interstate when, suddenly, a bullet pierced through her windshield. While she or her son, who was traveling with her, was not injured, she is now asking for justice and denouncing anti-Muslim rhetoric.

As reported by NBC DFW, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 10, Mother’s Day. At the time, 30-year-old Sabah Mooswi was driving with her son on Interstate 35.

At one point during their trip, mother and son were startled when a bullet went through the car’s windshield and the car’s backseat. Later, Mooswi would find the bullet in the trunk.

Thankfully, mother and son were not injured during the incident. She, however, says it was very close.

Narrowly Avoiding a Tragedy

Mooswi detailed that her son was not in the bullet’s trajectory. If he had been, however, she is certain that she would be grieving him.

“By the mercy of God, my son was not in that seat when the bullet came through my window,” the mother said. “If he had been there, I truly believe that I would have been burying my child right now.”

The Texas woman shared the found bullet with the Richardson Police Department, hoping it could lead to ballistics evidence. She was told, initially, that the case was being investigated, but, according to her, this could lead nowhere.

An Apparently Unsolvable Crime

As reported by The Dallas Morning News, Mooswi detailed that police believed the shot was fired from a moving vehicle. It was considered a deadly conduct case.

However, days later, the woman said that a Dallas detective contacted her with bad news. Apparently, a lack of security footage and low visibility caused by rain meant that the case was very unlikely to be solved.

Mooswi, however, wants to keep pushing for the truth. She said, “I am not standing here today because I want people’s sympathy. I am standing here because I survived something that could have taken my life or worse, my child’s life.”

Anti-Muslim Rhetoric

Not willing to let this incident go by unnoticed, Mooswi took part in a news conference, denouncing what had occurred to her and her son. She even projected photos of the pierced windshield and the punctured car seat.

Furthermore, she believes that the attack might have been targeted. She theorized that the individual had seen her hijab, which pushed them to discharge a single shot at her vehicle. This sentiment was echoed by other members of the local Muslim community, who denounced an increase in anti-Muslim rhetoric.

However, the police stated that no evidence could be found that could lead to a hate crime investigation. Still, the mother had a strong message directed at the person responsible, with her saying, “To the person who attempted to take my life and my child, if you are watching this, know that you are a coward.”
