In what can only be described as every truck driver’s worst nightmare compressed into a single Sunday morning, a devastating crash at a Fort Worth Valero gas station left an 18-wheeler fully engulfed in flames and its driver critically injured.
The incident unfolded around 1 a.m. on April 5, when police responded to a collision involving a passenger car and a massive tanker truck at 13900 Trinity Boulevard, according to Fox 4 News.
Officials said it was carrying roughly 9,000 gallons of gasoline, and once the collision knocked down nearby power lines, the situation escalated quickly. Downed power lines and a fuel-loaded tanker created a dangerous chain reaction, and the truck caught fire shortly after the lines came down.
According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, the driver attempted to stop the gasoline from spreading across the station grounds using onboard or specialized equipment. Despite the effort, the flames spread to the spilled fuel, and the fire intensified. The driver was transported to a hospital in critical condition with severe burns.

Firefighters also deployed foam designed to suppress fuel fires, since gasoline cannot be controlled with water alone. To prevent runoff and limit the spread of hazardous materials, sand trucks were brought in to create containment barriers around the scene.
The operation stretched across six full hours, with crews finally clearing the scene at 7 a.m. Sunday morning. The Fort Worth Police Department confirmed the details in an official release, and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
