The new Senat brand has officially entered the luxury sedan segment with the Senat 900. The car was presented during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, where visitors also saw the longer Senat 1000 version.

The model is aimed at corporate fleets, government institutions, and buyers who want a large executive sedan with comfort and prestige as the main priorities. It is also positioned as a more accessible alternative to Russia’s larger Aurus models.

The design makes that connection clear. The front end is dominated by a large chrome grille with an Aurus-inspired look, while vertical LED lighting elements and long proportions give the sedan a formal appearance.

The standard Senat 900 measures about 202 inches long, while the extended Senat 1000 stretches the formula further for buyers who want more rear-seat space.

The interior is designed around executive travel. Buyers can choose a traditional five-seat layout or a four-seat VIP configuration with two separate rear seats.

The VIP version adds natural wood trim and a folding table inspired by business-class aircraft cabins. Nappa leather is used inside, while the manufacturer also emphasizes improved sound insulation for a quieter ride.

All seats are equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Rear passengers also receive separate controls for the climate and audio systems.

The equipment list includes a head-up display, wireless phone charging, USB-C ports, and a modern driver-assistance package. The goal is to give the Senat 900 the kind of comfort features expected in an executive sedan.

Power comes from a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 producing 326 HP and 332 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Senat 900 uses all-wheel drive, which should help stability in difficult weather and during long-distance travel. Air suspension is also fitted, with adjustable ride height.

Acceleration from 0 to 62 mph takes 6.5 seconds. That is respectable for a large sedan built mainly around comfort and official transport rather than outright performance.

The chassis uses double wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear setup. That configuration is common in higher-end sedans because it supports both ride comfort and stability at highway speeds.

The Hongqi H9 Connection Is Hard To Miss

The manufacturer has not fully detailed the technical origin of the car, but the Senat 900 appears closely related to the Chinese Hongqi H9. Its proportions, drivetrain layout, engine output, and cabin architecture point strongly in that direction.

Reports describe the Senat 900 as a localized and restyled version of the Hongqi sedan, with the most visible exterior changes concentrated around the front end. The massive grille gives it a more Russian executive-car identity.

That connection does not necessarily weaken the business case. Using an existing platform can reduce development time and allow production to begin much faster than creating a luxury sedan from scratch.

For the Senat brand, the main challenge will be proving that the car offers enough local identity, service support, and prestige to appeal to the official and corporate buyers it is targeting.

Production Has Started Near St. Petersburg

Assembly has started at the former Toyota plant in Shushary, near St. Petersburg. The facility had been idle for several years before being restarted for the new premium sedan program.

The project involves a consortium connected with Aurus, Gazprom, and KAMAZ. Around 3 billion rubles, or roughly $41 million, have reportedly been invested in reindustrializing the site.

The Senat 900 is expected to serve as the first main production model of the new brand. The longer Senat 1000 has also been shown, although reports describe it as a more exclusive extended-wheelbase version that may reach production later.

The standard five-seat Senat 900 is reported to start around $163,000, while the four-seat VIP version is listed around $170,000. That places it well below the most expensive Aurus models, but still firmly inside luxury sedan territory.

A Domestic Alternative For Executive Buyers

The Senat 900 arrives with a clear purpose. It is not trying to be a mass-market sedan, and it is not aimed at private buyers looking for an ordinary premium car.

Its main audience will likely be government fleets, state-linked companies, corporate clients, and buyers who want a large locally assembled executive sedan. Service programs and parts support for major fleet customers are expected to be an important part of the offer.

The model also shows how Russia’s auto industry is trying to rebuild premium vehicle production after major foreign brands left the market. Instead of developing every component independently, the Senat project appears to combine local assembly, Chinese technical foundations, and Russian branding.

With a spacious cabin, strong equipment list, V6 power, all-wheel drive, and an official image, the Senat 900 is entering a very specific part of the market. Its success will depend less on global luxury-car prestige and more on whether it can become a trusted executive vehicle for Russia’s corporate and institutional buyers.
